what if we were to think about Lucas as a young man who was apparently lost and did not like the system? (that’s 60s young males, and same group now)
if we think about it this way then it makes sense why everyone in the camp is able to identify with him and able to acknowledge they are people too.
also, then lucas’s (and everyone else’s) experiences and battles throughout the whole movie make sense (even the guards)
